Passing of TGI’s General Manager Robert Filipkowski
Posted July 2020
It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Robert Filipkowski, TGI’s General Manager for over 40 years, passed away on July 15, 2020. He was courageously battling cancer over the last few years. Our deepest condolences go out to his family.
Flip was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. At TGI he was a kind leader. When we recently announced Flip’s retirement it was no surprise to see the outpouring of appreciation from all the people that he has impacted. They thanked him for giving them a shot and investing in them. Over and over people mentioned what a difference he made in their life and career.
Our CEO, Frank Grasso, spoke at his memorial service on July 17th, 2020. Here are just a few of the things he shared about Flip’s role at TGI:
“He truly was the ambassador of our company and was an integral part of our success. He touched all of us and made TGI a better place. He welcomed new people to the company, shared his knowledge, and made them feel part of the TGI family. His patience and empathy earned the trust of the people and he always went to bat for the individual. I know all of you felt comfortable and trusted him, he listened, and knew about you and your families because he was genuinely interested and wanted to help and extend himself in any way possible. His legacy will be the wonderful family life he created at home and the TGI family he kept together for all those years. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.”
His family has set up a fundraising page in memory of Flip to raise money for the pediatric patients at Sloan.
